Drone videographers in Sydney on the early development of military drones

Believe it or not, the first unmanned aerial vehicle was created almost 170 years ago!

Our experts in drone videography in Sydney explain that the word drone refers to any unmanned aerial vehicle. That is, the pilot is not operating the vehicle from within the vehicle itself.

Here our experts in drone videography in Sydney share the very first development of military drones of the late 1800's and early 1900's:

1839 – This year saw the first unmanned aerial vehicles in the history of drones take to the skies in the form of balloons that were filled with explosives. These were used by Austrian soldiers to attack city of Venice.

1916 – With the invention of winged aircraft, came the first pilotless winged aircraft, based on designs by Nikola Tesla. These drones were controlled by radio control, much like today’s drones, although with simpler technology. These aerial targets were essentially flying bombs to be used against the German Zepplins.

1917 – The Kettering Bug was developed and approved to be mass produced by the Americans. This automatic military airplane was impressive throughout test flights, however it was developed too late in the war to be put to proper use.
